funny. ha. ha?

on july 14th, i went to the jammin' asian comedy night at laugh lounge in lower east side, for a night to support the asian american writers workshop (woot!). overall, it was good, especially since i havent been to a comedy show in awhile. the last show i saw was aziz ansari (who was awesome) a couple of months ago.

coming in, i didnt know any of the comics, sorry to say. but it made for quite an interesting evening.

the host was tommy hudson, who *surprise!* was korean. he covered a bunch of topics, including marriage, sex, and being korean. debbie chou did a musical performance, replete with quirky and surprising lyrics. daniel kim felt like someone's awkward dad, probably cuz he looked like ten other old asian dads i know. steve rosso - the token asian because he wasnt asian at all - writes stuff for mad magazine (which i dont think i've ever read actually). he was funny, for the most part, ending his set quite raunchily, as comics are prone to do, with this bit of information: "contrary to public opinion, men do have a g-spot - the back of her throat." bobby johnson ended the night and he was also crazy, also raunchy, and very animated. i have a shot of him jumping in the air and clicking his heels. lesson learned from him: "fake being albino." i could explain that... but really, there's no point.

when i think back on it, one seriously has to suspend personal beliefs to really enjoy stand-up comedy. sad, but true. i guess everyone needs a break from themselves every now and then.

p.s. it must be hard to be a comedian's wife - you always get mentioned! particularly when it comes to sex. you better be damn good in bed or else very forgiving.
