i watched the super bowl yesterday, that annual show of testosterone and sweaty ugly aggression, buttressed by overpaid 30-second blips of hopefully creative, but mainly uninspired, mass marketing. i don't claim to know much about football - but i'm always down to watch (like three times a year) and especially during the super bowl.
sometimes i have a team that i want to win.
this year - i, like millions of others of americans - could have cared less, since the majority of people didnt like those teams anyways and wanted some other team to play.
sometimes i'm excited by the halftime show performers.
2009 brought bruce springsteen out on the stage (complete with a crotch smash into the camera) and i, once again, could have cared less.
sometimes i looooove the commercials.
the only ones i really liked was the ge ecomagination commercial, with the cute kid bottling the wind and bringing it to his grandpa's bday, and bud light's one with conan o'brien. the careerbuilder spot was also amusing because of the punching of small animals. other than that - i was a bit bored.
i guess the only real highlights came during the game when the steelers' harrison got flipped over and hit the ground helmet-first, after awkwardly, but successfully making a touchdown and later when he used some "unnecessary roughness" on one of the cardinals later in the game. that guy looked crazy.
in the end, i say the real winners when it comes to the super bowl is the west coast - because 1) it's still early when it ends - instead of at 10pm and 2) west coasters have bbqs! over here you just settle for dip. more and more dip.
the rest of america are just superbowl suckers. unless you live and breathe football. which i think is sad.
